About the Bank

Fjord Bank is a digital consumer finance bank based in Lithuania, founded in 2019. The bank focuses on providing straightforward online loans and savings products. In December 2019, Fjord Bank received a specialized bank license from the European Central Bank, facilitated by the Bank of Lithuania. Fjord Bank operates entirely online and offers a range of services including deposit accounts, consumer loans, car loans, and home improvement loans. The bank's savings accounts are protected under Lithuania's deposit guarantee scheme, which covers deposits up to €100,000 per account holder.

Deposit Guarantee Scheme

Deposits up to an amount of EUR 100,000, including interest income, are legally protected at 100% per customer and per bank by the Lithuanian Deposit Protection Fund. Within the European Union, the minimum requirements are harmonized in all member states by Directives 94/19/EC, 2009/14/EC and 2014/49/EU.

Tax process and documentation

Lithuania has a standard withholding tax of 15%, but due to double taxation agreements between Lithuania and Ireland, there is the possibility of reducing this withholding tax to 10%. To reduce the withholding tax, a certificate of tax residence from Revenue is required, as well as the form "Claim for Reduction or Exemption from the anticipatory Tax withheld at Source" which we will provide to you when you make an order. These documents must be submitted no later than six weeks before your deposit is to to mature.
